• The Voith Composites and V-Carbon partnership will accelerate growth in sustainability by enabling the reuse and a second life for carbon fiber in the pressure vessels market
  • Both leaders in their field, the collaboration will build on the innovative technologies that each bring to the partnership, the Voith H2 storage system and V-Carbon’s industrialized circular economy for CFRP materials
  • The partnership and technology will deliver the first industrialized circular economy and solution for CFRP advanced materials for H2 storage systems

Our CU member Voith Composites, Composites 4.0 leader and production center of carbon fiber-reinforced composites in the Voith Group, announces its intent to partner with our CU member V-Carbon, an advanced materials technology company that delivers sustainable carbon fiber material systems. The partnership will establish and deliver industry leading innovation to achieve the first sustainable and closed-loop solution for CFRP materials for H2 systems.

V-Carbon is an advanced materials technology company, developing the first fully integrated carbon fiber circular economy for use in the aerospace, automotive, wind energy and industrial sectors.

Voith Composites is a manufacturer of tanks for hydrogen storage and has recently brought to market the Carbon4Tank – an optimal solution for hydrogen storage with the Voith Plug & Drive H2 Storage System – providing Type 4 high-pressure hydrogen CFRP tanks based on 700 bar technology for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. The partnership with V-Carbon will enable Voith Composites to obtain a quality recycled carbon fiber and highly-aligned structural materials for a second life in H2 tank applications, and provide V-Carbon with high-performance CFRP waste from H2 tank production and end-of-life tanks. “We are delighted to sign a Letter of Intent to partner with V-Carbon,” says Anna Pointner, CEO at Voith Composites. “This partnership will help us reach our shared goals in sustainability by enabling a recycling capacity for H2 tanks, which is a core objective at Voith Composites. We look forward to a long and prosperous partnership that will help us on our mission to protect our planet.” Damian Cessario of V-Carbon says: “We’re looking to partner with Voith Composites because they are an industry leader in the field of H2 storage systems for heavy-duty vehicles. We look forward to confirming the terms of our agreement and working together for years to come.”
