High Performance Recycled Carbon Fiber Materials – Development of semi-finished and end products made of recycled carbon fibers with improved mechanical properties

Brief description: Due to the enormous growth rates of the market for carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and the ever new areas of application, the reuse and recycling of CFRP is also becoming increasingly important. While recycling technologies such as pyrolysis have been industrially established for more than 10 years and thus technical recycling possibilities are available, the (price) attractiveness of recycled carbon fibers (rCF) must be further increased. This project aims at achieving a higher mechanical performance of the resulting components by a consistent orientation of rCF in semi-finished products and thus increasing the attractiveness of rCF products. The project covers the entire value chain from the recycling or recovery of the fibers via the production of semi-finished products to the final products. A total of 8 German and Japanese partners are contributing their know-how to this project in order to complement each other and thus execute the project.
