RESCOMP Engineering demonstrates damage-based composite design and sensorless health monitoring at JEC World 2026

From “safe-by-margin” to “safe-by-knowledge”, RESCOMP (of the Composite Group at the University of Padova) predicts fatigue damage, validates it in service and accelerates confident decisions — monitoring integrity without adding complexity.

Composite programs don’t fail because teams don’t try hard enough — they fail because fatigue damage is still too often treated as a black box including simplified assumptions, conservative knockdowns, late-stage surprises and redesign loops that burn time and budget.

At JEC World 2026 (Paris, March 10–12), RESCOMP Engineering will show a more efficient, informed approach — damage-based composite design paired with sensorless structural health monitoring, enabling engineering teams to predict how damage evolves and verify what’s happening in the real component — without adding external sensors, weight or intrusive integration.

Faster development cycles

Whether you’re designing for aerospace, automotive or energy, the pressure is the same: lighter structures, faster development cycles for certification and deployment, and fewer unknowns through the part’s service life. RESCOMP’s approach is built for teams who need to answer questions such as:

  • What damage mechanisms initiate first, and when?

  • How does stiffness degrade over life under real cyclic loads?

  • Which design choices truly improve durability, not just margins?

  • How can we monitor integrity without adding complexity?

Two proprietary technologies, one lifecycle logic

RESCOMP Engineering has developed two complementary solutions to bring fatigue reliability under control from design throughout service.

RESCOMP-FLA (Fatigue Life Analysis). A fatigue design tool based on a discrete damage approach, predicting initiation and propagation of multiple damage mechanisms under cyclic loading. Unlike conventional fatigue methods, RESCOMP-FLA models damage evolution and stiffness degradation across the full service life while staying computationally efficient and compatible with commercial finite element workflows.

RESCOMP-SHM (Structural Health Monitoring): A sensorless SHM system that turns the composite material itself into a sensing element. By correlating irreversible electrical resistance changes with damage evolution, RESCOMP-SHM enables real-time integrity monitoring with no external sensors, added weight or invasive integration.

Used independently or together, the two technologies support a closed-loop strategy — predict damage during design, validate it during service.

“Composite structures require design strategies that go beyond simplified life estimates,” said Marino Quaresimin, CEO and Co-Founder of RESCOMP Engineering. “Our goal is to provide engineers with scientifically grounded tools that support confident decisions throughout the entire lifecycle of a component.”

Built on research, engineered for industry

Born from more than 25 years of academic research and industrial collaboration in composite mechanics, RESCOMP Engineering was founded to bridge the gap between scientific insight and real engineering deliverables—helping teams build safer, lighter, and more reliable composite structures.

In addition to its proprietary technologies, RESCOMP supports industry through:

  • Strategic & Technical Consultancy – Structural design support, feasibility studies, performance optimization, materials/manufacturing scouting, and development of customized simulation tools.

  • Advanced Testing & Data Interpretation – Planning and execution of static/fatigue test campaigns, advanced protocols, and interpretation with physics-based and data-driven models to derive robust design strategies.

  • Tailor-Made Training & Tutoring – Customized programs on composites, fatigue design, and SHM—plus one-on-one knowledge transfer to strengthen in-house capabilities.

RESCOMP’s technologies are at an advanced development stage, with prototypes validated on industrially relevant components and ongoing collaborations in the automotive, aerospace, and energy sectors.
