The working group provides a platform for knowledge exchange and networking from raw material and fiber manufacturers to end users of fiber-reinforced components. The issue of fiber-matrix adhesion covers the following topics:
- Methods for surface modification of carbon fibers
- Characterization of fiber surfaces and fiber-matrix adhesion
- Influence of polymer matrices on fiber-matrix adhesion
- Requirements for sizings from fiber manufacturers and end users
Regular presentations and discussions are planned on these and further points to highlight existing and new approaches to improving fiber-matrix adhesion, as well as ways to characterize it. Half of the participants in the last meetings came from institutes and half from companies. The meetings of the WG Fiber Matrix Adhesion and the WG Matrices are held jointly.
