Together with RUAG Space, the School of Engineering of the FHNW developed the “GreDom insert”. This type of insert, which can be inserted and glued into satellite panels in a fully automated process, is now on board OneWeb satellites that were recently launched into orbit.

Inserts are special threaded inserts used to attach instruments, power units and sensors to a satellite’s support structure. An average communications satellite has 5,000 to 10,000 inserts, which until now have only been installed manually. With the “GreDom insert”, the production time of satellite structures can be significantly shortened, which allows considerable cost savings.
