The “Sustainability” working group of the Composites United Network is the exchange platform for all relevant sustainability topics in the field of fibre-reinforced composites. In light of increasing regulatory requirements and growing expectations from customers and value chain partners, companies are facing the challenge of quantifying, documenting, and communicating the environmental performance of their products in a transparent and standardized manner.

Our upcoming session provides an overview of the current sustainability landscape for the composites industry. We will address three key dimensions: first, the regulatory framework and reporting obligations, including CSRD and the relationship between mandatory and voluntary ESG/CSR standards; second, practical insights into LCA software solutions and digital tools; and third, the role and selection of LCA databases, with a focus on data quality, regional and technological representativeness, and the question of when generic datasets are sufficient – and when more specific data are required.

The session aims to provide clarity, practical orientation, and actionable guidance for SMEs, OEMs, and research institutions seeking to navigate sustainability assessment in a structured, efficient, and future-proof way.
