The Universität der Bundeswehr München offers a state-of-the-art research environment that is a leader in various disciplines throughout Germany. The Institute of Lightweight Engineering of the Department of Aerospace Engineering is concerned with the manufacturing, development and design of lightweight structures made of conventional and modern materials with a focus on fibre reinforced composites. This includes the development and analysis of new lightweight design concepts (especially also in the context of additive manufacturing), the evaluation of the static and dynamic structural characteristics using analytical and numerical calculation methods, and the performance of extensive experimental investigations to verify the methods and theories developed. For this purpose, the institute has a large structural mechanics laboratory with appropriate metrological equipment.
