Berlin | 27.06.2024     As part of the Innovation Day “Sandwich Technologies in the Berlin Metropolitan Area”, regional players presented processes, structures and products from the field of sandwich technologies. On the premises of the Department of Aircraft Construction and Lightweight Design at TU Berlin, 45 participants had the opportunity to acquire an overview of the functional principles, manufacturing processes, used skin and core materials, specific applications as well as recycling possibilities of sandwich structures.

The lecture program was rounded off with a tour through the host’s laboratories, where current research focuses and cooperation opportunities were outlined. There was also plenty of room to address individual needs and exchange ideas with the participating experts and representatives of regional business development agencies. (see also program)

Sandwich structures are highly relevant for lightweight design and are used across all material groups and industries. The Berlin metropolitan region is home to numerous developers, manufacturers and integrators of sandwich structures. Due to the universal applicability of the mechanical and manufacturing principles used, sandwich structures can be found in a wide variety of application sectors.

The event took place as part of the MPI project “Lightweight technologies for SMEs in the Berlin metropolitan area”, which is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises and supported by Berlin Partner for Business and Technology.
