Last week, MAI Carbon welcomed a high-ranking delegation from the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency (KCarbon) to Augsburg. The aim of the visit was to deepen cooperation between the two organizations, explore synergies, and open up new opportunities for collaboration between the Korean and German carbon composites industries.

The event kicked off on Monday with the Korea-Germany Tech & Innovation Partnership Day in Augsburg. During this business pitching event, Korean and German companies presented their innovations in the field of carbon composites and took the opportunity for direct exchange and networking. On the Korean side, Hankuk Carbon, PolymerWorld and HS Hyosung Advanced Materials were among those presenting, while the German side was represented by the Augsburg Institute for Textile Technology, the Augsburg Innovation Park, and Composyst GmbH.

Later in the week, the delegation visited IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich – an internationally significant showcase for innovations and future technologies in the mobility sector. The program also included visits to MAI Carbon members SGL Carbon, Airbus Helicopters, Cevotec, Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme and Fraunhofer IGCV. These stops provided insights into current developments, research projects and industrial applications in the field of high-performance fiber composites.

The highlight of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between KCarbon and MAI Carbon on Thursday. This agreement reaffirms the close partnership and provides for long-term cooperation in areas such as technology and knowledge transfer, delegation trips, investment promotion, and joint research and development projects. The aim is to combine the innovative strength of both countries and to strengthen the carbon composite industry in the long term.

“We have had a week full of inspiration, networking, and exchange. For us at MAI Carbon and for Composites United e.V., this is a strong sign of international cooperation. I am extremely pleased that a large number of MAI partners participated. It will not be the last time,” promises Sven Blanck, Managing Director of MAI Carbon.
