This year’s market report, now in its 15th edition, has been published annually by Composites United e. V. (CU) since 2010. The report serves as an overview of carbon fiber production and demand from a global perspective and is available in German and English. A highly consolidated summary is published in full and is quotable. A much more detailed long version is reserved for members of CU or can alternatively be purchased by non-members. The current version of the market report was presented on March 4, 2025 at JEC WORLD 2025 in Paris for the completed reporting year 2024.<\/p>

A demand volume of 126,500 tons was determined for the 2024 reporting year. This corresponds to an increase of +7.66% over the previous year. Sustained positive developments are forecast for the coming reporting years, with two different scenarios being used for the prediction. On the one hand, constant growth based on CAGR (2019-2024) of approx. +7.38% is used. On the other hand, the expansion programs already in the final stages of completion with regard to CF production capacity (name plate capacity) and an estimate of the associated capacity utilization rates are used. While these two scenarios do not represent a general lower or upper development limit, this methodology has been quite successful in narrowing down the real development range over the past reporting years. In particular, the implemented expansion of CF production capacity in the reporting year 2025 is significantly above average. At around +26.5%, this is well above the average relative expansion of around +6.5% for corresponding expansion measures since 2017. Chinese market participants, who successfully implemented very large capacity expansions in the reporting year, receive special attention.
